A midst the anxiety of coming up with an ingenious method for asking a significant other to Prom, one often forgets the question that seems to be on every girl’s lips when they enter their final years of high school: “What will my date and I wear to prom night?” Though the classic “black tuxedo with a white button-down shirt and black bowtie” look is timeless, Prom is often thought of as a night where one can truly exhibit their own personal style, unabashed of restraints. Sticking to the classical array of neutral colored formals in colors such as black and grey is effortless, but why not stray away from tradition and wear something a bit more exciting? For an out of the box, yet understated approach to prom-wear, one can wear a monochromatic look, in which all aspects of the outfit are of the same color scheme, such as an outfit incorporating black, grey, and white hues. Intricate details play a huge part in putting together a dapper look for Prom night, and small pops of bright color in the form of accessories are a wonderful way to introduce color into an otherwise conservative “black tie” outfit. Colored bowties are nothing innovative, however patterned bowties spark a quirky aura. Blazers and trousers in the same color are rather passe. For the more adventurous, forgo the traditional same-colored suit for a blazer or pant in a bold color, such as red, blue, or for the school-spirited, purple. Stick to sleek dress shoes of leather and suede in neutral colors, and pay attention to small details such as cufflinks and watches. Prom is truly a night to remember, so why not be a bit rebellious and experiment with a variety of endless options to come up with a unique, well put-together ensemble? As I tie up by bowtie, I bid you all a bittersweet farewell, with hopes that my column has served as an inspiration to many. |

Prom - one of high school’s most memorable events - is almost here. It’s a special time of year, when we spend countless hours and a bit more money than considered acceptable by society to find that “perfect” dress. We take great pleasure in getting all dressed up and having a great night with others. As a female, prom isn’t just about dancing, although that is one of the main reasons prom exists. I’m sure we can all agree that dresses, make-up, and hairstyles are some of the most important things of the night. We need to look perfect, and I’m here to help! When it comes to dresses, you want to keep it simple. You do not want to have too much going on all at once in a dress. If your dress is a little bit more on the extravagant side, try to keep your accessories and makeup simple. Choose pastel colors, dark, or the essential must haves for the season, when it comes to dresses. When it comes to shoes, a simple, medium heel is perfectly fine. You do not necessarily need a 5 inch heel for prom. First of all, a long dress prevents your shoes from being visible, and overly high heels will only make you tired faster. The point of prom is to have fun and not have to worry about your feet aching. Even though you want to stand out , accessories are not the only way to do so. Do not over accessorize! Keep it simple so you can add some more color and attention through your dress, makeup and hairstyle. For makeup, keep it subtle and do not add too many dark colors, neither on the eyes nor mouth. Keep it natural and fresh! If you want to make a drastic impact just add fake eyelashes to make your eyes look bigger. Hair can be either the hardest or easiest to do on this occassion, depending on what you’re aiming for. Either curl it, straighten it, put it in a bun, a polished ponytail, sleek twist, soft waves, glam braids, a half knot. Put your hair up when your dress has a low back or a design to show. There’s a variety of hairstyles to choose from! Just remember to keep it classy and simple but cute! |
